Have you ever audited your own content? Have you ever had someone do a content audit for you?
What even is a content audit?
A content audit is basically looking at the content you are posting and analyzing it for trends. What types of things are you talking about across your feeds? What words are you using repetitively? What branding are you using in your images? What calls to action are you using, if any? What is your ideal client seeing and learning about you, your business, your offers, etc.? You can audit an Instagram profile and feed, a website, a Facebook page or group, a LinkedIn profile…the list goes on and on. Are you actually saying what you think you’re saying? Is your ideal client getting the message that you want them to? Or are there gaps?
Why do a Content Audit?
Just today my to-do list looked like this:
-Review live blog post
-Create an Instagram post to promote the blog
-Share about blog post to Instagram stories
-Talk about my offer on Instagram stories
-Create content for social media posts for the rest of the week
-Write blog posts for next week
Does yours look similar? So much of being a small business owner or service provider is showing up on social media and posting online!
It is SO easy to put our heads down and get swept up in the need to post to socials every single day. We get in the groove, we hit publish, and we assume our branding and our messaging are clear. Unfortunately, it is easier than we realize to veer off course. Small language shifts, movement away from a content pillar, or even our own exhaustion can dilute our message. This can make it really difficult to connect with our ideal clients.
Recently I found myself wondering if my own brand messaging was clear enough. Since I am in my business, blogging every week, posting on my Instagram feed every day, talking in my Instagram stories, speaking to my local mastermind group about my business, interacting with my business coaches about my offers, talking to Dan about my new ideas…it is easy for me to feel like I have said everything I could possibly need to say to my ideal clients. But so often that assumption comes back to haunt me!
I may feel like I’m doing nothing but posting and talking about my offers and services. But our feeds turn over SO FAST. If we aren’t consistent our content just simply won’t get seen. Similarly, if we aren’t perfectly clear in our calls to action we can leave potential clients feeling confused.
The best suggestion I can give you is to do a content audit.
Since I had business coaches willing to do an audit for me, I asked them to. And sure enough, they found a few holes! I wasn’t posting as much as I felt like I was. I wasn’t selling as much as I thought I was. I wasn’t asking for action as clearly as I assumed. My messaging was strong but not as strong as it could’ve been. They suggested a few tweaks and within a matter of a few days my views were up over 400% and my engagement was up 75%.
Sound like something you need?
We don’t all have business coaches willing to do an audit for us. Don’t worry. I have two resources to share with you. One is a free worksheet you can use to do your own content audit. Just enter your email address and the resource will be sent directly to you. You can access it here. The second is my services. I offer content audits. Did you know?! They are only $25. As part of your content audit, I will not only analyze your existing social media profiles and website, but I will put together a vision board that reflects my findings. It will help you literally visualize whether or not your content is giving off the impression you are hoping for/assuming. Additionally, I offer suggestions for changes you can make to make your content and copy more effective. We can then schedule a call to talk through my findings and suggestions.
If you’re interested in booking a content audit, you can fill out this form by clicking here, and I will be in touch!
Regardless of which option you choose, I cannot recommend a content audit enough! If you’re going to take the time and energy to post consistently, you should be getting the most out of it!
If you have any questions or need any help, you know where to find me!
With so much love and gratitude,
